It’s not difficult at all. Do what the previous answer said regarding the bus from the airport to Playa del Carmen ferry dock. Senior Frog’s is adjacent to the dock so you can pop in for a quick drink before you get on the ferry
I usually fly directly into Cozumel…so if it’s an option for you you might want to do it. It might save you a bit of hassle.
If you’re going for the day, mopeds are pretty inexpensive…jeeps will be more (up to $90 per day if booked form your hotel while on the island!!) so if you know when you’ll be going, book before you go with expedial or travelocity. It will save you some money.
If you’re staying for a few days, definitely book before you go. As I said, it will be much more expensive if you try to get transportation on the island because they are capitalizing on the cruise ship passengers who disembark and rent a jeep or moped for the day and will pay a premium.
